Company Profile

Living Cell Technologies Limited is a biotechnology company engaged in the clinical development of cell-based therapeutics for the treatment of diabetes, and pre-clinical research and development into neurological disorders. LCT focuses on developing living cell products for the treatment of diabetes, neurological disease and haemophilia. It also owns specialized pig breeding facilities, which enables the use of pig cells and tissues for human medicinal purposes.

The Company’s products include:

The Diabecell candidate product is in the first patient with type 1 diabetes and has  encapsulated porcine cells that produce insulin, which were implanted by a laparoscopic procedure into the abdomen of a 47 year old man who has had type 1 diabetes for 20 years. Diabecell is designed to normalise blood glucose levels in type 1 diabetes sufferers.

NTCell candidate product: A choroid plexus cell product with the potential to treat neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and stroke.

Fac8Cell candidate product: A liver cell product aimed at producing factor 8, a blood clotting agent absent or defective in people suffering haemophilia.

Encapsulation Technology candidate product: LCT’s technology platform involves the implantation of healthy living cells to replace, repair or regenerate diseased or damaged organs.

As of June 30, 2009, the Company’s wholly owned subsidiaries included Living Cell Products Pty Ltd, LCT Australia Pty Ltd, Living Cell Technologies New Zealand Ltd, Pancell New Zealand Ltd, LCT BioPharma Inc, Fac8Cell Pty Ltd, NeurotrophinCell Pty Ltd and DiabCell Pty Ltd. On July 2, 2009, the Company opened a pig breeding facility for New Zealand Diabetes Clinical Trial.


A further $4.2 million was raised in July 2009.
