Company Profile

Pharmaxis is a specialty pharmaceutical company involved in the research, development and commercialisation of new therapies for undertreated respiratory diseases.

The company's first product (which is their more minor play), Aridol, is now registered for sale in Australia, Europe and South East Asia and a request for marketing approval has been filed in the United States. Aridol is designed to assist in the management of both asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

The Company's second product, Bronchitol, has completed the first regulatory Phase 3 trials in both cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis. Bronchitol is designed to restore normal lung hydration, improve lung function and to help relieve the mucus burden in the lungs of patients suffering from chronic respiratory conditions. The current adressable market for cystic fibrosis is now more than $1 billion annually.

The company's other application area is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and is the largest market opportunity. COPD is a lung disease that makes it hard to breathe. It is caused by damage to the lungs over many years, usually from smoking. COPD includes Chronic bronchitis and Emphysema
